Beta-glucan was identified in 1960 by Prof. Dr. Nicolas Di Luzio at Tulane University in the USA. Its effects on the immune system have been demonstrated through research conducted by many scientific institutions, including Harvard University.
Research on beta-glucan, obtained from baker’s yeast and also found in the crusts of natural bread, shows that this substance strengthens the immune system at the cellular level. Beta-glucan activates white blood cells such as macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes that fight infections, and it helps in the repair of damaged tissues in the body. By strengthening the immune system, beta-glucan helps immune cells eliminate microorganisms more effectively and detoxifies the body from the harmful effects of free radicals. In situations where the immune system is weakened, beta-glucan increases the body’s resistance and provides protective effects against diseases. On days when the risk of infection is high, beta-glucan boosts the body’s resistance.
Beta-glucan can be obtained from various sources besides baker’s yeast, including different grains and mushrooms. Oat bran is one of the foods highest in beta-glucan content.
EFFECTS OF BETA GLUCA ON THE BODY
Beta-glucan derived from oat bran is a natural active ingredient that protects, soothes, and revitalizes the skin. Independent clinical studies have shown that beta-glucan derived from oats:
» Allergy
» Eczema
» Psoriasis
» Insect bites
» Irritations caused by baby rashes and diapers
shows that it decreases. Additionally, scientific studies have demonstrated that beta-glucan from oats helps reduce dryness and redness in skin exposed to UV rays by soothing and moisturizing the skin.
Beta glucan obtained from oats also:
» It revitalizes the skin and increases its firmness by stimulating collagen synthesis,
» It reduces fine lines and wrinkles with its anti-aging effect,
» It provides a moisturizing, soothing and smoothing effect,
» It accelerates the natural healing process and encourages wounds to close faster,
» It has been determined that it has anti-irritant, anti-inflammatory, anti-histamine (itch-reducing) effects.
Beta-glucan, which has no reported side effects, contraindications, or toxicity, is classified as “Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS)” by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
